Hidden from view but once packed with worshippers.
Tucked away behind the iron archway on Narberth High Street, Bethesda Baptist Church has been part of the town’s story for more than 200 years.
The Baptist cause was established here in 1808–09, and by the mid-19th century it was flourishing. The 1851 Religious Census recorded 300 worshippers in the afternoon, 400 in the evening and 150 children at Sunday school.
To accommodate the growing congregation, the present chapel was built in 1889. Look out for its striking wheel window, Romanesque entrance and decorative ironwork.
Today, this Grade II listed chapel remains a reminder of just how important Nonconformist worship once was to everyday life in Narberth.
